DSE Compliance Checklist for Irish Employers

A practical checklist covering key DSE duties, evidence prompts and reassessment triggers under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 (SI 299/2007) — for office, hybrid and remote workforces.

What's inside

  • The Schedule 4 minimum workstation requirements — and how to evidence each
  • Evidence prompts to help structure assessment and action records
  • How often to refresh assessments — by role type and equipment change
  • Remote worker / home office assessment requirements
  • Equipment minimum standards for chair, desk, monitor and inputs
  • What to do when an employee reports DSE-related symptoms
  • Documentation and retention period requirements
  • How to handle DSE for hybrid and shared-desk environments

Built around the workstation factors and employer actions relevant to Irish DSE duties. It is general guidance, not legal advice or a guarantee of compliance.

About the checklist

What the checklist does — and doesn't — replace

This checklist is a working document for HR, safety officers and office managers. It tells you what good compliance looks like, and what evidence to keep. It is nota workstation assessment in itself — it doesn't replace the per-employee DSE assessment that the Regulations require.

For the actual assessments, organisations either run them in-house with a trained DSE assessor, or use a specialist provider like Usafety. We deliver remotely (~30 minutes via MS Teams) or onsite with documented reports and organisation-level oversight.

If you are setting the scope first, read our explanation of what a DSE assessment covers and our guide to DSE programmes for office, hybrid and remote teams.
