The QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor course (also called Train-the-Trainer) qualifies you to deliver QQI Level 6 accredited manual handling training to employees in any Irish workplace. The qualification is awarded by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) at Level 6 of the National Framework of Qualifications, equivalent to an Advanced Certificate. Usafety has been delivering manual handling and instructor training since 1995 and holds the HSE Single-Supplier Framework for manual handling and people handling training. Programme content is overseen by our senior ergonomist.
Curriculum
What you learn across the 5 days
Theory, practical handling technique, training methodology and assessment are all covered. Days are structured to build from fundamentals on day one to live teach-back sessions by the end of the week.
Group size is capped at 8, so there's a lot of one-on-one feedback during practical sessions.

What is the QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor course?
The QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor course (also called Train-the-Trainer) qualifies you to deliver QQI Level 6 accredited manual handling training to employees in any Irish workplace. The qualification is recognised by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) at Level 6 of the National Framework of Qualifications, equivalent to an Advanced Certificate.
How long is the course?
The full course is delivered over 5 consecutive days at our Galway training centre or, by arrangement, at your premises. Theory, practical technique, training methodology and assessment are all covered.
Who is the course for?
Health and safety officers, occupational therapists and physiotherapists, training and HR managers, and anyone planning to deliver in-house manual handling training. We also train people setting up their own training practice.
What are the entry requirements?
No formal academic prerequisites. Candidates need a current valid Manual Handling certificate (any QQI-recognised provider), and reasonable physical capability to participate in lifting and handling practice. Good English (written and spoken) is required for the written assessment.
How is the course assessed?
Continuous assessment across the 5 days plus a final practical teach-back where you deliver a short lesson, and a written assignment. Pass rate from our courses is high — we work closely with candidates throughout the week.
What does the qualification let me do?
Deliver QQI Level 6 accredited manual handling training to participants in any Irish workplace, either in-house at your organisation or to external clients. The cert is widely accepted by Irish employers and the HSA.

Yes. The People Handling / Patient Handling Instructor course is delivered separately and is specifically for healthcare and care-sector instructors. Get in touch for dates.
