QQI Level 6

QQI Level 6 is a level in Ireland's National Framework of Qualifications. In manual handling and people handling, the relevant QQI Level 6 awards are instructor awards: Manual Handling Instruction and People Handling Instruction. HSA guidance says workplace manual handling training should be delivered by a person with the appropriate instructor award, or by someone who can otherwise demonstrate equivalent competence. An employee who completes ordinary workplace manual handling or people handling training does not receive a QQI Level 6 award merely because the instructor holds that qualification.

QQI Level 6 is administered by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), the state body responsible for qualifications.

For employers commissioning workplace manual handling or people handling training, the relevant check is the instructor’s award and competence, together with task-relevant course content and a suitable practical element.

Instructor training is a separate programme with its own learning outcomes and assessment requirements. It should not be confused with the employee-level workplace course.
