Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) is the national awarding body for further education and training in Ireland. FETAC gives people the opportunity to gain recognition for learning in education or training centres, in the work place and in the community. FETAC's functions include:
- Making and promoting awards.
- Validating programmes.
- Monitoring and ensuring the quality of programmes.
- Determining standards.
In June 2006 the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) set up a Manual Handling Training Advisory Group whose job was to focus primarily on developing standards for instructor qualifications. As the work of the group evolved, it became clear that a number of elements were required. These included

Developing two new FETAC Level 6 Specific Purpose Certificates for Manual Handling Instruction and People Handling Instruction

Agreeing a policy on the need for FETAC Registration of Training Providers who deliver instructor training programmes

Agreeing a validation process to be used by FETAC to determine if new instructor training programmes submitted are consistent with the requirements of the relevant Level 6 standard

Agreeing a process for recognising prior learning learning (RPL) for existing instructors.
This new Manual Handling Training System has been put in place and Usafety in order to comply with the requirements of this new system and to assist our clients have put in place the following

We have developed our quality system to comply with FETAC and have been accredited by FETAC.

We have developed programmes for Manual Handling Instruction and People Handling Instruction and these have been validated by FETAC.

We have partnered with a recognised FETAC RPL provider to ensure instructors trained by us previously have access to becoming recognised through the RPL process.
